Born in Garmisch-Partenkirchen at the foot of the Zugspizte, the “genuine” Upper Bavarian was journeying through the mountain world at a very early age. He made his hobby into his profession and in 1984 he became a trekking guide for a large German trekking organiser.
By now, he has been active on all continents as a travel guide – his biggest fascination are regions with little developed infrastructure, in other words, adventurous destinations.
His preferences are, for example, the seldomly visited trekking regions in Nepal, such as Dolpo or Mustang, lonely paths in South America, be it through the Andes or the rain forest, but also the deserted vastnesses of Siberia.
However, he also likes to journey through the Sahara on the back of a camel or boarding a wooden raft in Romania. The Arabian world fascinates him just as much as the vitality of many Africans …
By foot, when hiking or mountaineering, he is convinced that the most beautiful corners of a country are found far away from mass tourism and spoilt regions. One faces the locals “on an even level” and carefully takes part in the daily life and the foreign culture.
Opening new “horizons” for oneself, belongs to the deeper experiences of this wonderful way of travelling for him.
