Expedition to the «Ruler of the Sky»
Khan Tengri

11. July – 04. August 2013 / 25 days

The Pamir Mountains are a mountain range in Central Asia formed by the junction of the Himalayas, Tien Shan, Karakorum, Kunlun and Hindu Kush. Since Victorian times they have been known as the «Roof of the World», as they are among the world’s highest mountains. One of them is Khan Tengri (Uighur for «Lord of the Spirits», «Ruler of the Sky»). Only thanks to its glacial cap the mountain is actually taller than 7000m; the rock itself only reaches up to 6995m. Nevertheless , it is officially recognised as a seven-thousander.

  • Khan Tengri: fantastic pyramid-shaped colossus in Central Asia, on the Kyrgyz–Kazakh–Chinese border.
  • The Snow Leopard award (Russian: Снежный барс) was a Soviet mountaineering award, given to very experienced climbers. To receive this award, a climber must summit all 5 peaks of 7000m and above located in the former Soviet Union, namely Khan Tengri, Lenin Peak, Peak Korzhenevskaya, Pik Communism and Pobeda Peak.
  • This expedition/trip has not yet been organised by K&P. Information available from local agency, reliability is not guaranteed.
