The name «Aconcagua» is assumedly of Indian origin; In Quechua, the language of the Inca, «Ackon Cahuak» means «Stony Sentinel» which indeed fits this stony giant of a mountain! Doubtlessly, the original inhabitants of these areas had a special relationship to this summit. The huge massif of this 6962m high mountain is certainly awe-inspiring.
