«I know a high mountain, we can do it…» says Kari Kobler today. The statement however, originally comes from Pasang Dawa Lama. He said this to Herbert Tichy from Vienna in 1953, prompting Tichy to climb this huge mountain for the first time with a tiny expedition of only three mountaineers and six Sherpas! A journey with cultural highlights complements this mountain tour and helps in acclimatisation.

  • The beauty of cultural diversity is an important aspect of this expedition.
  • To help acclimatisation, we will visit Mt. Everst (5200m) base camp.
  • Base camp is situated near the Nangpa La, one of the most popular and oldest trading routes in the Himalaya.
  • The technical difficulties are moderate; therefore, the mountain can be climbed by many people. However, being over 8000m in height, Cho Oyu is not to be underestimated! Please take notice of the Expedition Finder.
  • Positive: the weather is much more stable in Tibet than in Nepal or Pakistan.
  • It’s good to know we have made many successful ascents on this mountain.
